Macro Uncertainty Impacts on ESG Performance and Carbon Emission Reduction Targets

This study examines the impact of three macro uncertainty factors: economic policy (EPU), political instability (PIS), and cultural avoidance (UA), on corporate environmental, social governance (ESG) performance carbon emission reduction targets. Additionally, we examine whether these factors are affected by profitability company. Using an unbalanced sample companies located in USA, China, UK during period 2013–2020, results show that times uncertainty, more likely to engage ESG activities, including establishing Companies countries with lower levels stability (PS) exhibit greater environmental engagements, operating societies tolerate risks, risk associated climate change, have better be committed The also suggest profitable deal uncertain environments successfully, as they required resources invest ESG. suggests several practical implications for managers policymakers.
